Sla-Day, the dynamic Phoenix based acoustic group performs Americana with a twist.
Sla-Day features Lead-Vocalist Carey Slade and backing Lead-Vocalist Mary Godfrey.
Both ladies started their musical journeys at the age of fourteen.
Slade teamed up with Godfrey shortly after Godfrey relocated from Boston.
Slade was born & raised in the northern mountains of Arizona & was raised on country.
Her indefinably strong vocal delivery includes influences from Stevie Nicks, Melissa Etheridge,
Joan Baez, and Emylou Harris.
Godfrey was born and raised in Chicago, inspired by her older brother Todd Kelley
who was a folk singer of the 1960’s Greenwich Village/Bob Dylan days, and had a release
on ESP Disk Records, which has recently re-emerged. Godfreys' soft alto vocal styling includes
influences from Christie McVie, Dido, and Chrissie Hynde.
They both have extensive live experience which gives way to a charismatic stage performance, as seen on National Syndicated Television programs, such as Channel 3's Good Morning Arizona, and Arizonas' Channel 12.
Together they perform (as a Duo, and also with their Full Band), with annual summer tours throughout the Midwest. Slade and Godfrey have each released two solo CD's and have recorded for other artists including Pete Thelen, Stephanie Fletcher, Keith Secola, ralo, Patrica Silver Wing, and more. With Slade on guitar & Godfrey on bass, they merge together; bringing haunting vocal harmonies in an edgy, catchy, folk rock, with a bit of country style. In 2005 they released "Endless Good Times" on Blue Turtle Records. Their second release, "It's A Dogs' Life, Live at Hollywood Alley" was recorded & released in 2007; and features new, unrecorded material. The Live CD features Slade & Godfrey joined with Jason Wiedman on drums and Bern Daddy LeZotte.
Their annual Midwest Tours covers territory from New Mexico, Minnisota, Wisconsin, Illinois & back to Arizona. Both the "Endless Good Times" and "It's A Dogs' Life, live at Hollywood Alley" are available at live performances. Be sure to catch a show, hear their new material & have a good 'ole time.....
